Teeth Cleaning

Tartar, or calculus, is a type of mineralized plaque that develops even with routine flossing and brushing.

Minerals from your own saliva cause calculus to form; this means that it is as natural as your teeth are!

The main problem with tartar buildup is that it houses bacteria which releases toxins and can cause severe gum inflammation, cavities, and even compromise the jaw’s structure.

Unfortunately there is no hiding from tartar buildup or avoiding it through your routine brushing and flossing.

This is why it is important to come into Dr. Runne’s dental office and let our staff of dental hygienists remove dental plaque, ensuring healthy teeth and gums for you and your family.
Tartar buildup can lead to serious conditions, like gingivitis, since it compromises gum health

Professional cleaning includes tooth scaling and tooth polishing and even debridement if a lot of tartar is spotted. Debridement is the process of plaque removal using ultrasonic instruments and hand tools. Tooth scaling is another type of plaque removal using periodontal scalers and curettes to ensure that tartar gets removed safely and effectively.

Here at Dr. Runne’s dental practice, we recommend that our patients get their teeth cleaning done by a team of dental hygienists twice a year, once every six months. This is a very effective method of preventing cavities, gum disease, and other dental complications arising from an excess of tartar buildup.
